Hi, I’m Dimitri Giani.
I build Magica from Tirrenia, on the Tuscan coast near Pisa, Italy. I’m an independent developer: no investors, no marketing team, no pressure to grow at all costs. Just an app built the way I’d want to use it myself.
Magica was born from a personal need: track my own business trips without my data ending up on someone’s server. From there it became the app used by 40,000+ professionals, freelancers and small businesses.
My mobile journey
I’m self-taught. I finished middle school and then learned everything in the field: assembling PCs and doing tech support in the ’90s, then web design, graphics, and finally iOS development from 2008 — when the App Store had just launched.
For five years I was an iOS Engineer at Ovolab, then in 2015 I co-founded JB Studio – Nice APP as CTO. Since 2020 I work full-time under my personal brand dimix.it – Mobile Application Development.
Magica is the project I put most of my energy into. It’s not a side project: it’s my main work, which is why every decision — from the interface to the data architecture — goes through me and only me.
Privacy by architecture, not just by policy
Most mileage tracking apps store your trips on cloud servers. Magica doesn’t.
Your data stays on your iPhone. Full stop. There is no server of mine where I could read where you’ve been, because I never built one.
This isn’t a marketing choice, it’s a technical and architectural one. It means zero data-breach risk on my side, zero tracking, zero ads. Even usage analytics are opt-in and anonymous.
The day I’m no longer around, or I stop developing Magica, your data will still be yours and still on your device. Nothing to shut down, no account to close.

What makes Magica different
Four things MileIQ, Everlance and the others can’t replicate.
One developer, fast decisions
No product managers, no committees. If you report a bug or suggest a feature, you read the reply from me — not a tier-3 customer success rep.
Privacy as an architectural choice
US competitors were born in the cloud and ask you to trust their policies. Magica was born without a cloud: privacy can’t be broken because there’s nothing to break.
Truly Made in Italy
Written by an Italian developer in Italy. Calculation logic follows Italian regulations (ACI tables, TUIR art. 51), European ones (GDPR), and US ones (IRS standard mileage rate) — not just the US-centric rules.
No exit strategy
Magica isn’t built to be sold to Intuit or a venture fund. It’s my long-term project, and that changes everything about how I think about the product.
